Sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBD) | Information from A to Z
Symptoms of SRBD, also called obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), include breathing arrests during sleep causing a lack of oxygen. SRBD is mainly characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness, including the compulsive need to fall asleep (microsleep). In some patients this is due to a retrusive lower jaw causing respiratory occlusion. A mandibular advancement splint (e.g.
TAP® appliance) is made in consultation with a sleep medicine specialist to prevent retrusion of the lower jaw at night and thus keep the airway clear. |
