A fixed retainer is an individually curved metal wire attached to the back of the front teeth between the canines. It is invisible and prevents malalignment of the front teeth. The fixed retainer should normally be worn until the
wisdom teeth are extracted, but can also provide dental stability throughout life. Special oral hygiene using floss or a small interdental brush is important to avoid gum infection. |
