Occlusal splint | Information from A to Z
See also Bite splint.
This removable plastic cover (usually for the upper teeth) helps to keep the teeth apart when biting down. The occlusal splint is intended to prevent grinding or clenching, and is used to treat pain of the jaw joints or chewing muscles and to protect the teeth from grinding. Occlusal splints ideally disturb acquired movement patterns, thus inducing unspecific relaxation. There are different types of occlusal splints, one of them being the Michigan splint. |
