Snoring noises are usually caused by the vibration of the relaxed tissue. The sleeper’s lower jaw moves towards the airways, thus obstructing them, and the air has to pass through a smaller gap. But if the quantity of air is to remain the same, it must pass at a higher speed. These two factors cause the soft palate to vibrate, i.e. the snoring. A mandibular advancement splint produces relief by bringing the lower jaw further forward, thus limiting the scope of movement of the soft tissue. |
