Medical insurance companies in Germany require the assessment of individual treatment plans according to an index of orthodontic treatment need (Kieferorthopädische Indikationsgruppen, KIG). This assessment must be submitted to the insurance company in writing. Health insurance covers orthodontic treatment from Grade 3 upwards. If a patient is shown to have Grade 1 or 2 occlusion, orthodontic treatment must be paid for privately.. |
