Deep bite | Information from A to Z
In a deep bite the upper incisors protrude over the lower incisors. The upper incisors should normally close approx. 2 mm over the lower incisors. If this distance is wider, it is referred to as a deep bite. A more severe deep bite often induces the upper incisors to force the lower jaw into a posterior position. This impairs the bite and can cause pain in the jaw joint in the long term. Moreover, a deep bite can become so extreme that the lower incisors bite into the soft tissue of the upper jaw and vice versa (traumatic deep bite). |
